Job Description
They are currently seeking a Welding Engineer to provide welding expertise to their design teams ensuring the suitability of the design for construction and to ensure its successful construction.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for ensuring the provision of weld procedures for the fabrication of the equipment designed, supporting the business in development of standards and suitable systems/procedures.
The welding engineer will play a key role in maintaining our credibility as equipment provider/manufacturer, retaining QA accreditation & underwriting welding activities and will have the ability to influence the long term capability of our manufacturing base, liaising with customers and improving internal welding knowledge/expertise.
Day-to-day responsibilities will involve monitoring fabrication quality, inspection and welding processes to ensure compliance with agreed standards and cost assumptions. It will also be necessary to investigate and resolve fabrication quality issues as well as designing and qualifying welding procedures to meet product and client requirements.
The welding engineer will need to take responsibility for the investigation of complaints relating to fabrication and welding engineering issues and recommend appropriate corrective action in turn advising production management on QA issues.
Candidate Description
The successful candidate should be qualified to degree level or equivalent in welding technology, metallurgy or a science/engineering related subject and will have a proven background in metallurgy and welding of carbon steels. A detailed knowledge of structural fabrications and welding processes together with the ability to identify the origin and cause of fabrication and welding defects is essential, as is a detailed knowledge of quality management systems. You must be able to read & translate specifications, be conversant with all major carbon steel welding systems and have knowledge of carbon steel metallurgy.
