Our expanding client are a company involved in general sub contract high quality machining, fabrication and welding to clients drawings working in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium of various grades. The Company is also involved in the refurbishment of heavy construction plant and equipment components.
Production Manager
The role
• Maintain discipline on shop floor, ensuring employees adherence to starting, stopping, meal and tea break times.
• Establish continuous improvement programmes
• Liaise with Quality Manager, maintaining the Training Matrix for the implementation of ongoing development programmes for shop floor and production staff.
• Produce weekly work schedules and ensure sufficient capacity and efficient use of manpower to maintain quoted delivery dates with products built to Company and/or clients quality standards, reporting the same to the General Manager.
• Manage the Production Engineering team to ensure on time delivery of materials to suit production schedules.
• Control and run MRP purchasing and stock control system.
• Ensure on time and accurate timesheet entries for job costing.
• Ensure all Works operations are carried in compliance with SAFS Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
• Liaise with the Sales Manager in the production of accurate cost estimates for quotations.
• Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all Works plant, equipment and vehicles to ensure safe operation and compliance with current legislation.
• Monitor and maintain the fabric and general good housekeeping of the workshops reporting defects to the General Manager.
• Develop and maintain accidents statistics in line with Company policy.
• Continually review production processes and make capital expenditure recommendations to the General Manager.
• Participate, as part of the senior management team, to develop, and ensure the Production team’s compliance with, SAFS Quality Management System.
• Create a positive, motivated working environment getting the best out of all members of the Production team to meet the Companies objectives.
The person
• Qualified mechanical engineer (HND minimum)
• Minimum 20 years experience with 5 years in managerial position.
• Proven hands on manager required to manage /schedule the workload of 7 production staff, 30+ shop floor personnel and 3 production workshops. Good planner / organiser and knowledge of MRP production scheduling systems essential.
• Good man management skills.
• Experience with high quality machining, fabrication and welding techniques. Stainless steels; carbon steels; aluminium
• Willing and able to work flexible hours as clients demand
• Good interpersonal skills – Able to communicate effectively with clients, suppliers and team.
• Confident and experienced engineer able to undertake a wide variety of contracts. Will probably have worked on a variety of differing engineering projects.
• Has drive and ambition to push the business forward.
• Good knowledge of Word, Excel, Project. Experience with MRP production control systems essential (training will be provided).
