| A vacancy has arisen in our clients Litigation department for a solicitor to join the Environment and Safety team. Based in their Newcastle office, this position offers plenty of interesting and challenging opportunities dealing with the contentious side of Environment and Safety work. You will work across a broad range of environment, health and safety and other regulatory law, including; Health and safety prosecution, food safety, fatal accidents, licensing etc The contentious work principally involves criminal litigation and civil litigation. Typical work would include:- Representation at formal interviews under caution ("PACE interviews") or s.20 interviews with the Police, the HSE, Environment Agency and other regulators; Representation at Court hearings including trials and pleas in mitigation in the Magistrates' Court and representation at Licensing Committee hearings; Attendance at Inquests; Co-ordinating and advising on and crisis management in response to incidents and fronting discussions with regulatory authorities; Recovering commercial losses caused by regulatory problems; and Applications for new licenses under the Licensing Act 2003. A solicitor joining the team would have the opportunity to deal with work in all of the areas covered by the team. Regulatory law is subject to constant change and updates. An ability to rapidly come to terms with and understand new legislation is crucial. There will be direct client contact from the outset and the opportunity to attend court on a regular basis. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Solicitor and other members of the Team and will be directly responsible for their own individual cases. |
