| An engieering company based in Newcastle upon Tyne is looking to appoint a Development Engineer to join their team. Salary is going to be banded between £29-31,000 but there is scope for increasing for the right candidate The Engineering department provides an engineering design service for other departments locally, globally and within other parts of the group. The Development section performs tasks in order to improve product knowledge and keep the company at the leading edge of industry materials and technology. Main function of job: Component design and development, technical support on product design and development issues at the request of other departments and entities. This includes all associated activities. Advise the Manufacturing Unit on the acceptability and disposition of product and components with outstanding non-conformances. New areas of development to help strengthen the company's position in the market place, reduce costs, improve quality and increase its product and capabilities portfolio. Ensuring work is completed according to agreed guidelines, design rules and procedures and in a timely and efficient manner. In addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required Main duties (in order of priority) Product design, calculations and analysis utilising relevant software. Gain understanding of products through development projects, investigations, observations, modelling, background reading, consultation with experts and data analysis. Generate and develop, design rules, drawings, reports, analyses, calculations, instructions, procedures, specifications, design plans and relevant documentation associated with the product. Advise the Manufacturing Unit on disposal associated with non-conformances, damage etc. Liaising directly with internal clients, external clients (via projects department), manufacturers and suppliers, to agree final designs and with respect to any other engineering issues within the jobholder's area of responsibility. Review designs with respect to materials of construction to ensure the maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness of all constructions. Qualifications required: Degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline. Experience required: A minimum of 4 years general engineering background (essential). A minimum of 2 years experience of the offshore industry and in the design of associated equipment (desirable). A minimum of 2 years experience of computerised systems (AutoCAD - essential, Solidworks, MathCAD, FE software - desirable), and including spreadsheet/word processing software (essential). Particular aptitude/skills required Considerable analytical ability to solve simultaneous multiple problems where no precedent exists. A high degree of Engineering skills, experience and expertise are needed to overcome any problems encountered whilst performing the job holders duties Other relevant information It may be necessary at times to work unsociable hours to meet the needs of the business. Travelling within the UK and abroad may be required at times |
